Get started as an NDIS Provider (NSW)

As the NDIS continues to roll out across the country, more people are becoming aware that this is a major change. The NDIS is bringing the promise of real change to the way disability support is funded, giving individuals the choice and control to pick the supports that a right for them. It is a major reform that is transforming what it means to be a support provider.

In order to meet this change, adapt, innovate and create new services, providers who want to be part of the NDIS will need to understand the new system and how to work with it to get the best for the people they support. To enable providers (new, established or potential) to build their capability to become quality NDIS providers (the kind that get 5-star reviews here on!) the NSW government is running sessions in October to get feedback and build a program to help small to medium NDIS providers.

The NSW Department of Industry, Skills and Regional Development is implementing the Disability Sector Scale Up (DSSU) program as part of Smart, Skilled and Hired (announced in the 2016-17 Budget). DSSU focuses on growing the size and capacity of the disability sector in NSW, with two streams of work.

  1. The first stream will help small and medium sized businesses that want to provide NDIS services with assistance to scale up or start up. DSSU will also encourage people to enter the workforce, including through support for training.
  2. The second stream of DSSU will be developed in partnership with NSW Aboriginal Affairs and will look at the economic opportunities for Aboriginal people in the sector. There will be additional consultation on this stream later in 2016 or in early 2017.

The DSSU team is holding stakeholder consultation workshops in a range of locations across NSW to get input on the first stream of the DSSU, particularly:

  • The design of the DSSU program
  • The outcomes that the program should aim for
  •  How different types of organisations would like to participate in the DSSU

The workshops will take place at the following times:

  • Tuesday 11 October 2-4pm in Port Macquarie (Mid North Coast and North Coast)
  • Wednesday 12 October 11am-1pm in Bankstown (South Western Sydney)
  • Thursday 13 October 2-4pm in Charlestown (Hunter)
  • Friday 14 October 11am-1pm – teleconference focusing on Far West and remote servicing but this options is open to other regions as well
