#8 Personal Care

Our 8th most searched for NDIS support in 2017 is Personal Care supports. Unsurprising given how important and prevalent personal care supports are in helping you live your life and achieve your goals. Personal care supports are all about getting help with every day personal activities. The NDIA gives lists examples as (in the original NDIA-speak):

  • “personal hygiene, including showering, bathing, oral hygiene, dressing and grooming;
  • toileting, bladder and bowel management and menstrual care;
  • eating and drinking;
  • attending appointments;
  • use of aids and appliances, hearing and communication devices;
  • mobility and transferring, for example moving in and out of bed and on or off the toilet; or
  • application of splints, basic first aid due to injuries sustained as a result of a participant’s disability.”

While the NDIA currently sets a general limit of up to 6 hours of personal care supports, this has not been a deterrent. The common need for Personal Care supports has made these one of the most searched for NDIS supports of the year.
